Music at Badger
Badger Creek Primary School has an extremely comprehensive and vibrant music program. This program is well supported by our music teacher, Jenny Legg who has developed our music program to what it is today. We have a fabulous school choir and band which regularly performs at our school assemblies, local community venues and events. Rohan Anderson our drum teacher and a Victorian College of the Arts trainee is responsible for our popular percussion ensemble. Jed Rowe teaches guitar and Liz Bennett is responsible for the growth in popularity of flute and clarinet. The instrumental program is coordinated by our piano teacher and former Sydney Symphony Orchestra Oboist, Rita Van Oui.
Forty per cent of our students are learning to play a musical instrument. Students have access to a range of instruments and lessons. They can learn individually or by a buddy arrangement. Students are given opportunities to perform at school assemblies, special days and also at musical evenings which have become part of our annual school musical program.
In the classroom students enjoy a wide range of musical experiences designed to foster musical enjoyment, appreciation, confidence and creativity. Students sing and play instruments including percussion, recorder, xylophones, drums, keyboards and our latest addition, ukuleles. Students are encouraged to perform regularly in school assemblies and for their class mates. All classes will have the opportunity to perform at assembly throughout the year.
At Badger Creek we also provide opportunities for students to experience top quality live music through visitations such as the fabulous Royal Australian Navy Band and also through excursions to the city to see performances at the Victoria Arts Centre and shows such as “Possum Magic” and “The History of Rock”.
We love our music and are very proud of our musical students.
